Buffett family donates boat to USM Gulf Coast Research Lab

Singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett visited the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Lab on Monday (Dec 5) with sisters, Lucy “Lulu” Buffett and Laurie Buffett McGuane, for the christening of the GCRL’s newest boat.

The three siblings donated the vessel to the GCRL to further its educational programs, naming it Miss Peetsy B in honor of their late mother, Mary Lorraine Peetsy Buffett.

Peetsy, as her grandchildren called her, grew up on the Gulf Coast and graduated from the Gulf Park College for Women in 1940. She later received a university degree at the age of 64.

“We’re all here because our mother valued education so much. It was sort of a building block in all of our lives,” said Lucy Buffett.
